2025 ALYB Umpire Registration
Are you looking to have a great summer experience umpiring baseball? Are you looking to start the path of training to eventually become an IESA/IHSA umpire?
American Legion Youth Baseball offers officiated games to players in the 8U-15U Divisions. Umpires can work games from early May to mid-July as part of the Summer League and from early September to mid-October as part of the Fall League. All games are played at the American Legion Youth Baseball Facility.
Requirements:
You must be 13 years old to umpire.
1. Complete the ALYB Online Umpire Application Form:
Returning umpires in good standing do not need to complete this form. Umpire Coordinators will be in contact with you regarding your application.
2. Take ALYB Umpire Exam or be a currently licensed IHSA Baseball Umpire:
Applicants must take this exam in order to assess their knowledge of the game and the type of training that will be required. The exam is an open book, multiple choice exam specifically tailored for the appropriate age group(s) that they are requesting to umpire. The exam will be emailed to you after your online application is received.
If you are a currently licensed IHSA Official, ALYB does not require any additional testing but does strongly advise that those umpires be familiar with ALYB rules and regulations for any age group that they will be officiating.
3. Review the current ALYB Umpire Handbook
Umpires will not be eligible to be scheduled for any games until all of these requirements have been met.
Game Rates:
8U: $20/game (1 umpire/game); 10U $25-$30/game (2 umpires/game); 12U $35-$40/game (2 umpires/game); 15U $45-$50/game (2 umpires/game)
All umpires are paid weekly on Monday evenings. Checks may be picked up from a Board Member at the Concession Stand building.
